1. General Information

 

What is the CCFR Mobile App for?

 

The app is a way to stay in touch with the CCFR, administrate member accounts, make donations, watch our podcast and find great discounts from retailers and businesses who support our community the most.

 

Is the app available on my device?

 

The app is available on iPhone, Android and as a Progressive Web App (PWA).

 

What is a Progressive Web App?

 

A Progressive Web App (PWA) is a type of application that combines the best features of web and mobile apps. PWAs are built using standard web technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, but they offer a user experience similar to that of a native mobile app. Here are the key characteristics of a PWA:
  • PWAs are designed to work across multiple devices, from desktops to mobile phones, adjusting their layout and functionality according to the screen size.
  • PWAs offer a native app-like experience, with features such as smooth navigation, push notifications, and the ability to be installed on the home screen without going through an app store.
  • Users can "install" a PWA on their device by adding it to the home screen from a browser, without needing to download it from an app store like Google Play or the Apple App Store.
  • PWAs are typically faster than traditional web apps due to their optimized performance and caching capabilities. They also take up less storage compared to native apps since they don't require installation from an app store.
  • Unlike native apps, which require users to manually update through an app store, PWAs are updated in the background automatically whenever the app is reloaded.
  • No Need for App Store Approval: PWAs bypass app store restrictions (Harder to cancel).

 

Is the app free or does it have paid features?

 

The app is free to download and most features are free to use. In order to gain access to the exclusive discounts within the app you must be a current member of the CCFR.

 

2. Account and Login

 

How do I create an account?

 

All users must register to begin using the app, even if you have an existing membership or account on our website. If you are an existing CCFR member registering with the same email you use for your membership will link your app profile to your existing CCFR membership. New members can register and buy a membership all in one quick and easy process within the app. If you're not sure which email you use for your CCFR membership, you can contact [email protected] for assistance.

 

I already have an account on your website, why do I have to register again?

 

The CCFR app uses a separate database from our website, and passwords are not transferrable between these accounts. Whether you are a long-time supporter or brand new to the CCFR, you will need to (re-)register to use the CCFR app.

 

How do I log in or log out?

 

Once you have successfully registered, you will be logged in to your account automatically. To log out, you can find a logout link at the bottom of the in-app navigation menu. To log in again, you can enter your email address and password that you set during registration on the app home screen.

 

I'm already a CCFR member and my account password isn't working in the app. Why?

 

If this is your first time using the CCFR App, you will need to register. Our app uses a separate database and the passwords from our website accounts are completely separate.

 

I forgot my password. How can I reset it?

 

You can find a 'Forgot Password?' link on the home screen of the app. Enter your email address on the next screen and you will be sent a link to reset your password. If you don't receive the email, be sure to check your spam inbox as well. If you have checked your spam inbox and still do not see the password reset email, please contact [email protected] for assistance. There is also an option to initiate a password reset from the 'Profile' page when you are logged in to the app. 

 

Can I use the app without creating an account?

 

No. All app users must register to use the app. You are not required to purchase a membership or make a donation in order to use the app.

 

How do I delete my account?

 

Registered users can choose to delete their CCFR app account by navigating to the 'Profile' page of the app and selecting the 'Delete Account' button.

 

3. App Features

 

How do I access the exclusive CCFR member discounts in the app?

 

Once you have registered and purchased a membership (or have an existing current membership) you can navigate to the 'Member Card' tab in the app. Below your membership card you will find a listing of all CCFR business members who have at least one active discount available to members. If you cannot see the discounts on business listings, make sure you have at least one current CCFR membership. If your membership expires you can quickly and easily renew it right in the app. Discounts will immediately become visible upon renewal of an expired membership.

 

Our business partners are entitled to various terms and conditions for their discount offerings. Some discounts may only be available in-person at their retail location, or only available on their website for limited periods of time. If you feel that a business is not honouring their discount(s) listed in the CCFR app, you can let us know at [email protected] so that we can follow up with the business.

 

Business parters are also entitled to require you to show your digital CCFR membership card, and to validate that the card displayed is not a screenshot of an expired membership card (prior to expiry). Failure to provide proof of a valid CCFR membership is grounds for a business to deny you a published discount. In most cases any dispute can be quickly and easily resolved by renewing any membership in question within the CCFR app. 

 

How do I show my digital CCFR membership card to businesses?

 

You can find your CCFR membership card(s) on the 'Member Card' tab in the app. Tapping on the card will cause it to rotate and enlarge in landscape mode to make it easier to read for in-person transactions. Tap the card again to return to the normal portrait mode. 

 

For online purchases, businesses may stipulate their own requirement for providing proof of CCFR membership. This can include providing a screenshot of your digital membership card by email after you place an order. If you fail to provide adequate proof of membership within a reasonable timeframe, businesses are within their right to refuse to honour their listed discount(s).

 

I have multiple membership types under the same account but the membership number is the same. Is this an error? 

 

No. Your membership number will be the same for all memberships within the same profile. The type and expiry date can vary between memberships, but the number remains the same.

 

Can I use the app offline?

 

No. The app requires a live internet connection to load various elements and function correctly. 

 

How do I customize the app settings?

 

The app features a dark mode that can be enabled or disabled in the main app navigation menu. Users can also choose which notification categories they want to receive notifications about on the 'Notification Settings' page also found in the main menu.

 

How do I enable/disable notifications?

 

For iPhone users, you must enable notifications via system prompt when you first install the app on your device. You can change CCFR notification preferences in system settings at any time as well.

 

For Android users, you must enable notifications directly in the CCFR app by going to the 'Notification Settings' page and tapping the 'Enable Notifications' button.

 

For the progressive web app, notifications can be enabled directly in the app by going to the 'Notification Settings' page and tapping the 'Enable Notifications' button.

 

Regardless of device type, users can toggle which categories they want to receive notifications about on the 'Notification Settings' page in the app. In line with our normal communications policies, we will not spam users with numerous or frivolous notifications.  

 

Is the app available in other languages?

 

Yes. The CCFR app has a language toggle for both French and English modes. 

 

4. Billing and Subscription

 

How much does a membership cost?

 

Membership costs vary by type. The cost for an individual membership is $40.00 per year. You can find a full listing of the membership types we offer here.

 

How do I cancel my membership?

 

If you want to cancel your membership for any reason, please contact [email protected] for assistance.

 

How can I request a refund?

 

Generally CCFR memberships and donations are non-refundable. If a billing mistake is made, please let us know as soon as possible and we will endeavor refund any erroneous charges as quickly as we can. The CCFR will, at its sole discretion, make determinations about refunds for legitimate transactions on a case by case basis.

 

5. Troubleshooting

 

What should I do if the app won't load?

 

First, try closing and re-opening the app on your device. If the problem persists, ensure that you have an active internet connection (try other apps, load a web page in your browser, go to the CCFR's YouTube channel and watch a quality video, etc.). You can also try deleting and reinstalling the app, or checking to see if there is an update for the app available in the Apple App Store/Google Play store. Finally, you can contact [email protected] for further troubleshooting assistance. If you contact us, please include your device make and model, the version of the app you are having trouble with (Apple, Android, or PWA), and the browser you are using (PWA only).

 

How do I fix a blank screen or freezing issues?

 

Most issues can be resolved by fully closing and re-opening the app. If a particular part of the app freezes repeatedly while other app features work as expected, you can send us a screenshot and description of the issue you are experiencing at [email protected] for further investigation. Please also include your device make and model, and the version of the app you are having trouble with (Apple, Android, or PWA).

 

Why am I not receiving notifications?

 

There are a number of reasons you may not be receiving notifications. These reasons can vary across different platforms and devices. Try logging out of the app, uninstalling the app, then reinstalling the app and logging back in. Also review your device's general notification and power-saving settings to ensure notifications are not being suppressed by the device itself. Please see section 3 on enabling app notifications for more information.

 

How can I report a bug?

 

Bug reports can be sent to [email protected].  If you contact us, please include your device make and model, the version of the app you are having trouble with (Apple, Android, or PWA), and the browser you are using (PWA only). Screenshots or screen recordings of the problem are also very helpful. The more information you can share, the easier it will be to address and fix for our developers. Please include BUG REPORT in the subject line of your email.

 

6. Security and Privacy

 

Is my data safe on this app?

 

We implement a variety of security measures to maintain the safety of your personal information. However, please be aware that no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is completely secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

 

What data does the app collect?

 

The app does not collect any data other than what you provide by registering, purchasing a membership, or making a donation.

 

How can I report a security issue?

 

Security concerns or issues can be reported to [email protected].

 

7. Updates and Compatibility

 

How do I update the app?

 

iPhone and Android apps can be updated in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store respectively. The PWA version should not require updating, as refreshing the app should automatically load any updates.

 

How often is the app updated?

 

The app is updated as required. Normally to fix any bugs that are identified, or to add new features.
