Pierre Poilievre calls on "Sellout Singh" to trigger an election

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre is calling on Jagmeet Singh, the leader of the federal NDP, to resign or stop supporting the Liberal government and trigger an early fall election.

Poilievre said Singh’s reason for joining the coalition government, to bring down food prices and make life more affordable for Canadians, has failed, by the NDP leader’s own admission.

He noted failings in the immigration system, including bringing in people at a rate higher than the growth of homes and jobs, inflation being the highest it had been in four decades, two million Canadians accessing food banks in Ottawa on Thursday. He also pointed to rising crime rates, the declining sense of safety in Canada, and the decriminalization of hard drugs as failures in the Trudeau-led NDP-Liberal coalition.

“(Trudeau) would rather that continue to be the case than to give up power. He will not quit. He must be fired, and the person to do it is Jagmeet Singh,” Poilievre said.“Singh sold out workers to sign on to this costly coalition. He has voted to hike the carbon tax to 61 cents a litre for policies to double housing costs and to tax food now,”

Poilievre noted that when Singh joined Trudeau’s government in a coalition, he promised to bring down food prices, but this month, he said Canadians are spending more and bringing home less... [Continue Reading]

Bloc Québécois leader shows political bias by attending DNC

Bloc Québécois Leader Yves-François Blanchet says he was invited to attend the Democratic National Convention (DNC), and he is using the opportunity to listen to what officials close to the Democratic nominee have to say about issues important to Canadians and Quebecers.

"We have to live with the fact that our closest ally and friend is the most powerful nation on earth. Whatever happens in the United States will have a huge influence on what happens in Quebec and in Canada," Blanchet said in an interview in Chicago with CTV News chief political correspondent Vassy Kapelos.

Blanchet said he was not invited to attend the RNC, but even if he had been, he would not have attended.

"I wouldn't have gone because I can not support the way it's being done now and it's no secret, that without interfering into their affairs or asking them to say or do something about our own issues, I feel closer to what Mr. Obama or Mrs. Obama said yesterday," said Blanchet.

Blanchet also said he believes... [Continue Reading]

Trudeau says he plans to lead Liberals into next federal election, dismisses comparisons to Biden

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau rejected comparisons to U.S. President Joe Biden’s political fate on Monday, saying he’s focused on delivering an agenda that will carry the Liberals through the next election.

Mr. Trudeau gathered in Halifax with his cabinet for the second day of their retreat ahead of the return to the House of Commons next month. Last week’s Democratic convention, which saw Kamala Harris rise to the top of the presidential ticket and energize the party, has drawn significant attention from Liberals north of the border.

Mr. Trudeau said the lesson he takes from the Democrats is that the government needs to respond to the things that “people are actually worried about” and present solutions to the issues they face.

“We’re going to go into this next election, putting a very clear choice for Canadians,” Mr. Trudeau said. “I’m focused on making sure we’re delivering through that election the kinds of things that Canadians need.”

Mr. Trudeau has been adamant that he will stay on as Liberal Leader and ask Canadians in 2025 to give him a rare fourth consecutive mandate – something no prime minister has achieved since Sir Wilfrid Laurier more than a century ago.

Pollster Nik Nanos said the data shows Mr. Trudeau has “become the political lightning rod of disaffection” among voters who are worried about jobs, the economy and the rising cost of living.

“Trudeau trails Poilievre in the double digits both in ballot support and as preferred PM,” Mr. Nanos said. “The only person who can reverse the current trend against Trudeau is... [Continue Reading]

The Liberals and the NDP have been working as a coalition government since Jagmeet Singh sold out his party’s values to prop up a corrupt government. How will this affect the next election?

In France, Emmanuel Macron strategically managed to hold onto power and oust the right- leaning party - is this going to be a template for the next Canadian election?

Dan McTeague is a former Liberal MP - he joins Stephen LeDrew to discuss how Justin Trudeau may pull off a victory in the next election.

Plans to expand Colt weapons plant in Kitchener condemned by public, approved by council

Plans to almost double the size of a Colt Canada weapons plant in Kitchener were condemned by several members of the public at a city council meeting on Monday night.

Councillors approved a zoning bylaw amendment and an amendment to the official plan after hearing concerns from the public.

The plant, located at 1036 Wilson Ave., is looking to expand by almost double by adding an extension to the building, demolishing two reportedly unoccupied homes adjacent to the lot to expand parking, as well as, installing a pedestrian bridge.

The public had concerns about how the expansion would impact the environment located near the plant, how it would affect transportation, and the ethics of allowing a weapons plant to increase production.

Sheikh Mohammed, a labor organizer in Kitchener, noted that council would be “setting dangerous and unethical priorities by approving this expansion.”

“While we have a housing crisis in KW, people living hand to mouth on the streets, they’re starving, they don’t have any shelter during high winter, they freeze to death, it is unconscionable to... [Continue Reading]

Violent crimes surge in York Region, police call increase troubling

Violent crimes involving guns – including homicides, shootings and carjackings – have surged in York Region since the start of the year, police said Tuesday, calling the increase troubling for the area north of Toronto.

York Regional Police Chief Jim MacSween said organized crime and increased availability of illegal weapons are thought to be contributing to the spike, noting that his force is dedicating more resources toward ensuring residents are “not only kept safe but they also feel safe.”

“The trend in violent crime is a major concern,” he said at a news conference where police shared data on the surge.

York Region has seen 46 shootings so far this year, marking a 92 per cent increase compared to the same period last year.

“Illegal handguns have become all too easy to access with limited consequences for criminals,” MacSween said.

“Almost all of the guns being used in these crimes are illegal handguns, many of which are being smuggled across the border from the U.S.” [Continue Reading]

GTA cops bust almost 100 on gun charges in three jurisdictions

It was a busy day for cops across the GTA as police announced 98 arrests, 49 guns seized and 1,070 charges laid across three jurisdictions on Thursday.

Police in Toronto, Peel Region and Durham Region all announced sweeps to get guns and drugs off the streets, even if only for a short time.

A short time because it won’t be long before those arrested are out on bail, no matter how serious the charges.

In Toronto, where police announced 48 arrests, 24 guns seized and 406 charges laid, officials also said 16 of those arrested were out on bail and in breach of their conditions when they were arrested this time.

In Durham, where 32 people were arrested with 16 guns seized and 184 charges laid, 13 were let out on bail before police even made their announcement.

“Out of the 32 individuals arrested, 28 were held for bail hearings. Predictably, 13 of those individuals were subsequently released on bail,” Durham Regional Police Chief Peter Moreira said Thursday morning. “Unsurprisingly, three are now wanted for breaching their new bail conditions, and we are working hard to locate these individuals, these bail violators.”

Moreira expressed utter frustration with the system and the strain police services face in trying to keep criminals off our streets.

“Twenty-three percent of everybody we arrest for a firearms related offence is already out on a firearms bail,” the chief said.

It’s a problem faced by... [Continue reading...]

Officers tackle armed man to prevent ‘catastrophic’ shooting at Winona Peach Fest; five shot elsewhere in night of violence in Hamilton

Five people were hurt in two shootings, a man was viciously attacked with a baseball bat, and Hamilton police tackled a man with a loaded gun — preventing a potentially catastrophic shooting at the Winona Peach Festival — in a night of violence in the city.

None of the incidents, which happened over less than nine hours Saturday night into early Sunday morning, are believed to be related. But police say the level of violence is concerning.

“They stopped what could have been a tragedy,” Insp. Jim Callender said of the quick actions of officers at the festival Saturday night.

He questioned why anybody would ever bring a gun to such a community, calling the situation “disturbing.”

There was already an increased number of paid duty and patrol officers working at the weekend festival — a decision made in advance because of several swarming and robbery incidents involving youths at festivals last year... [Continue Reading]

Two men convicted in Coutts border blockade were ready for gunfight with police: judge

An Alberta judge says evidence shows two men convicted for their roles at the 2022 border blockade near Coutts, Alta., were ready for a shootout with police.

Justice David Labrenz said Tuesday that while a jury found Anthony Olienick and Chris Carbert not guilty of conspiring to murder police at the blockade, it did find the pair guilty of mischief and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Olienick was also found guilty of possessing a pipe bomb.

The judge told court he accepts the verdicts as proof the jury believed both men brought weapons, ammunition and body armour to the two-week standoff not just to show off or hunt animals but for a more sinister purpose.

“It was to support the blockade and to engage in a war with police if it came to that eventuality,” Labrenz said.

The abundance of live ammunition, the medical kit, the ballistic vests are not supportive of showing off firearms or hunting coyotes. They are supportive of a... [Continue Reading]
