Frustrated Feds Amend Gun-Confiscation Contract With CSAAA

During a video interview with Nicolas Johnson of TheGunBlog.ca, Canadian Sporting Arms and Ammunition Association (CSAAA) President, Wes Winkel, said the federal government was amending the CSAAA's contract, lessoning their involvement in the gun confiscation program. He said the government has grown increasingly frustrated with the organization for continuing to point out flaws in the program.

Between 2022-23, the CSAAA signed an NDA and government contract with the Liberals worth approximately $707,363.05 in an effort to help retailers unload newly prohibited inventory that could no longer be sold to legal gun owners.

They say now, they will no longer... [Continue Reading]

New “Independent” Senator Donated to Liberals Over 220 Times, Supported Gun Bans

Despite Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s appointment of supposedly “independent” senators, Trudeau’s latest appointment has deep ties to the Liberal party.

Trudeau announced that alongside Charles Adler, he would be appointing Tracy Muggli to the Senate to represent her home province of Saskatchewan. Muggli is a long-time social worker and healthcare professional who is currently the executive director of St Paul’s Hospital Saskatoon.

However, Muggli is also a loyal supporter of the federal Liberal party.

Between 2006 and 2020, Muggli donated to the Liberals 221 times, donating to the party, her local riding association, and Liberal leadership contestants.

Her 221 donations to the Liberals amounted to $18,832.07 in total, with an average donation amount of just over $85. Muggli also gave $915 in non-monetary donations.

In an interview with local media during the 2019 election, Muggli stated that she supported the Liberal government’s firearm ban, the carbon tax, furthering trade ties with China, and implied that Western alienation is a product of misinformation... [Continue Reading]

Some Proposals For New Alberta Bill of Rights, May Present Interesting Legal, Political Implications

During a discussion with Bridge City News' Hal Roberts, Alberta National Post correspondent, Tyler Dawson, said that some of the gun rights proposals being floated around for inclusion within a new Alberta Bill of Rights, specifically giving Albertans 'a right to bear arms,' or to defend ones life or property with a firearm, would be 'a tough sell.'

Premier Danielle Smith said she plans to "strengthen Albertans' individual and property rights," some time this fall.

You can watch the full interview here.

Former Liberal Party president Stephen LeDrew asks political columnist Brian Lilley why the Trudeau Liberals continue to allow murderers, carjackers and home invaders the freedom to reoffend, ruining the lives of everyday Canadians.

Law-Abiding Citizen and His Dog Stabbed During Violent Encounter

Police continue to search for a suspect wanted in connection with a violent encounter involving a man and his dog in downtown Barrie last week.

David Mac Donald was walking his dog, Gibson, near Meridian Place on August 6 when he said he noticed three men kicking chairs at the square.

"The dad in me came out, so I was kind of like, 'Hey guys, stop kicking chairs," he said.

That's when Mac Donald said one of the men confronted him, and the situation quickly escalated.

"I started warning him, like, don't come near me, don't approach me," Mac Donald recalled.

The Barrie man said he acted in self-defence, hitting the suspect, who he claims pulled out... [Continue reading]

Perry Township Updating Firearm Discharge Bylaw With More Exceptions Than Prohibitions, says Bylaw Officer

The bylaw for firing guns in the Township of Perry is being updated this year. Here's what Council said its citizens need to know:

  • The current bylaw, enacted in 1960, makes it illegal to fire a gun anywhere in the township from June 15 to Sept. 15. This impacts gun-to-target practice, and participation in the beginning of goose hunting season.
  • A draft of the proposed bylaw is available on the town’s website for public review. “It clarifies the rules,” said Mike Wilmon, Perry’s chief building official and bylaw enforcement officer. “It’s not a total restriction like the 1960 bylaw.”
  • The new bylaw will allow people to discharge firearms on private property larger than three acres. It also specified many exceptions to the rule benefiting archery, gun and hunting clubs. “The exceptions are more numerous than the prohibitions,” Wilmon said. Property owned by the town or smaller than three acres will be off limits, he said.
  • Residents are invited to... [Continue reading...]

Update: The Council of the Township of Perry received a draft of the Proposed Discharge of Firearms By-law on Wednesday, August 21, and after hearing from the first round of concerned citizens council posted this link for those interested in reading the full report or wanting to get further updates and information.

Four Charged After Edmonton Home Invasion, Gun Calls

Two men and two women are facing a total of 32 charges after an Edmonton home invasion and multiple gun calls earlier this year, say police.

On Feb. 24, 2024, near Fort Road and 137 Avenue, officers stopped a speeding red Mercedes that had reportedly just been involved in a home invasion. Police arrested two of the vehicle’s four occupants and found two spent 9 mm ammunition casings. The Mercedes was then seized to obtain a search warrant, police said in a news release this week.

Later that same day, officers were called to the scene of a drive-by shooting after a bullet hole was located at a home near 45 Street and 149 Avenue, not far from where the vehicle involved in the home invasion had been stopped, police said.

Security video confirmed the vehicle involved in the drive-by shooting, a red Mercedes, matched the vehicle seized earlier that day. Police also found another 9 mm casing at the scene of the drive-by shooting.

Investigators later determined the drive-by shooting to be random; the accused individuals had no... [Continue Reading]

Oshawa, Stouffville Teens Face First-Degree Murder Charges in Toronto Tow Truck Turf Wars

A 15-year-old boy from Oshawa and another Stouffville teen, 16, have both been charged with first-degree murder following the death of a Pickering man that Toronto police say is connected to ongoing turf wars in the GTA’s tow truck industry.

Toronto police announced on Wednesday the arrests of four people, who face a total of 177 charges, in connection with tow truck-related shootings as part of the force’s Project Beacon.

According to Toronto police, a 28-year-old man from Pickering was found with gunshot wounds when officers responded to a call in the area of Warden Avenue and Ellesmere Road on July 6. That man, identified by police as Sulakshan Selvasingam, later died in hospital, said police.

Two teens — 15 and 16 — were arrested on July 15 with help from Ontario Provincial Police and were found to be in possession of a Glock handgun, say Toronto police.

The Toronto force also alleges the two teens were responsible for 11 more shootings that occurred between June 29 and July 14, with eight of those shootings taking place over the Canada Day long weekend... [Continue Reading]

Mandatory Reporting Penalties Changing in Ontario

The Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) is proposing changes to the penalties for failing to submit a mandatory hunting report.

Currently, if a hunter fails to submit a hunter report on two consecutive occasions for the same species, they are locked out — meaning they are prevented from purchasing any relevant product for that species for one year.

The MNR is proposing to eliminate the lock-out penalty and replace it with a graduated financial penalty. A hunter will continue to receive a $25 surcharge penalty fee for each... [Continue Reading]

Grizzlies Expanding Territory All Over B.C., First Ever Grizzly Bear Sow and Cubs Spotted on Vancouver Island

For the first time ever, a grizzly sow and her two cubs have been caught on camera on Vancouver Island.

Grizzlies have been spotted making the swim across the Johnstone Strait to Vancouver Island for the past decade only to stay temporarily, but biologist Garth Mowat says the fact that a mom and babies are here means that grizzlies are setting up shop on Vancouver Island more permanently.

“There’s sort of a progression. Young males show up and they go looking around. Often they leave and don’t come back and then eventually it’s the precursor to adults showing up and adults staying, and it seems to be the pattern on Vancouver Island,” said Mowat, a carnivore specialist with the B.C. Ministry of Environment.

Mowat says there have been other reports over the years of sows and their cubs on Vancouver Island, but this is the first verified report... [Continue Reading]

Alberta Grizzly Hunters Will Get to Keep the Carcass When Called on to Euthanize Bears

Hunters tasked with killing problem grizzly bears under a new Alberta program will get to keep the carcass afterwards, National Post has confirmed.

“The carcass may require inspection by a Wildlife Officer and the responder is able to keep all parts of the bear,” said Pam Davidson, an Alberta government spokesperson, in an email.

Last month, the Alberta government quietly changed provisions in the Wildlife Act that allow for hunters to, in the case of euthanizing problem grizzlies, take over the duties of a wildlife officer in pulling the trigger.

On June 17, changes to the act allowed... [Continue Reading]
